  • About Me

I'm Kelly, the Cranky Sock Maker. I'm a Midwest girl currently residing in New England. I've always enjoyed making things by hand as far back as I can remember.

I bought my first CSKM in 2021 and have aquired a few more machines since. I think it's fascinating to combine the love of knitting, with the history of these machines.

When I'm not knitting, I enjoy walking our Bernese Mtn dogs, traveling and spending time with our children and grandchildren.

Thank you for visiting my shop and supporting my Crankiness!

  • History of the CSKM

Circular Sock Knitting Machines date back to the 1800's, but gained popularity during WWI. Because the demand was so high for wool socks at this time, families were given a machine, and 10 pounds of wool, which was enough to make 30 pairs of socks. Many service members were suffering from trench foot and wool socks helped keep their feet warm and dry. The program was so successful it came back during the WWII.
